Courtney Shanade Salter, also known as Ari Lennox, a Washington, D.C.-based American singer/songwriter, was signed as the label's debut female singer with Dreamville Records by J. Cole. On the 21st of October, 2016 she debuted Pho, her first EP under the Dreamville Records label. It was at this point that she began to gain recognition. Shea Butter Baby released her first studio album 7 May 2019. Ari Lennox released her songs online in 2012, when she dropped her five Finger Discount mixtape and Ariography EP in 2013. In 2014, she continued to release her music on the internet including her independently release single Bound. In the year 2015, she performed on Omen's Elephant Eyes album on Sweat it out on July 21st. J. Cole, who was part of the Dreamville crew at that time was interested in having her perform on Rihanna and Rihanna-related songs. The news was released on the 8th of December that she had signed with Dreamville Records. In the record Revenge of the Dreamers II, she appeared on the track Backseat with Cozz. In the month of October the singer-songwriter released her debut EP Pho. Ari Lennox performed the song Change by J. Cole as well as opening the 4 Your Eyez Only Tour 2017. She was supported by EarthGang. In 2018, she appeared in two of her songs with labelmates EarthGang for Nothing but the Best. Also, she appeared on Bas in Icarus. Ari Lennox debuted her first single, Shea Butter Baby, Whipped Cream on the 16th of July in 2018. A music video was then released in September. Then on the 9th November the singer released two more singles, titled 40 Shades of Choke (and Grampa). She then released on the 13th of November two singles, titled No One and Pedigree. Shea Butter Baby is a track she sang alongside Cole for Creed II's soundtrack on 16 November. The track was released as a stand-alone single in February 2019, to coincide with her debut album. In February 2019 the music video for this song was released. The track has garnered over 3 million YouTube views in just a single week. She was part of 6LACK's From East Atlanta With Love Tour at the end of December the year 2018.
